Garlic Breadsticks with Marinara Dipping Sauce

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

3 tablespoons granulated sugar

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

2 teaspoons salt

3 cups + 2 tablespoons bread flour

1 cup + 4 tablespoons warm water

2 teaspoons instant yeast

For the Topping:

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 garlic cloves, minced

½ teaspoon salt

1 ½ tablespoons parsley, chopped

Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

For the Marinara Dipping Sauce:

1 can (14 ounces) peeled tomatoes (preferably San Marzano)

¼ cup fresh basil

Salt and ground black pepper, to taste

2 garlic cloves

1 teaspoon sugar

2 tablespoons olive oil

½ tablespoon Italian seasoning blend

¼ cup water

Instructions:

Make the Dough:

  • Prepare two baking sheets with parchment paper.

  • In a large bowl, combine water, yeast, sugar, melted butter, and salt. Add the flour and knead the dough for about 10-12 minutes. If the dough is too sticky, gradually add more flour until it becomes elastic.

  • First proof: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let it rise until doubled in size, about 60-90 minutes.

  • After the first proof, divide the dough into about 12 pieces. Roll each piece into an 8-inch log.

  • Second proof: Place the dough logs on the prepared baking sheets, leaving room between them to expand. Cover and let rise for about 45-60 minutes, or until doubled in size.

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C).

  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Make the Topping:

  • Place butter and minced garlic in a ramekin and put it in the oven until the butter is fully melted (alternatively, you can cook it on the stove if you don't have a ramekin).

  • Once ready, add chopped parsley and mix well.

  • Brush the baked breadsticks with the garlic butter mixture, then sprinkle with salt and Parmesan cheese (if using).

Marinara Dipping Sauce:

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add olive oil and garlic. Cook for about 30-60 seconds.

  • Add the canned tomatoes, water, sugar, and Italian seasoning. Cook for a few minutes until most of the liquid has evaporated, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

  • Add fresh basil and blend with a hand mixer until smooth.

  • Serve the garlic breadsticks with the marinara sauce and enjoy!
